Here’s a quick roundup of stories dealing with copyright, piracy, and free speech issues.  Been a busy start to the semester:

• How will the war on video and music piracy change in 2011?
  Good in-depth story from Mashable.
• Settlement on unauthorized Catcher in the Rye sequel
  Why anyone should write a CITR sequel is beyond me, but wasn’t clear on how you can stop someone from writing a new story.   Seems to me trying to suppress it only gives the book more attention.
• Congress looks to extend PATRIOT Act with minimal debate.
  The original PATRIOT Act was passed in the shock of the Sept. 11th attacks of 2001.  10 years later, it continues to get extended with only minimal discussion of how it limits our liberty….
• Congress discusses 1st Amendment following shootings
  An article from The First Amendment Center on the discussion about free speech that has taken place in congress since the shootings in Tucson.
