Hi, everyone from AEJMC in Sunny St. Louis! If you are here and want to say hello, send me an e-mail to rhanson40@gmail.com. In the mean time, here’s a bit of what’s happening currently in media news:
- Tyler Perry, of cross-dressing, faith-based comedy fame, may be getting his own cable channel
- The alt-press is struggling to stay viable and profitable in the changing media environment. The New York Observer looks at what’s happening at a couple of NYC alt-weeklies.
- Can threat of punishment stop people from copyright infringement? The death penalty didn’t work in France to stop people from copying fabric patterns. (Note: as of this morning, the server to the second link was overwhelmed…)
- Why is Apple sometimes the world’s most valuable company? Jonny Evans at ComputerWorld says that it’s because Apple is a company that deals in ideas, and unlike everything else these days, there is no shortage of ideas out there. I think it is time that we start thinking of Apple as one of the real media giants out there along with Time Warner, News Corp. and Disney.
Side Note: AEJ people: Check out the 12th Street Diner on 12th and Washington. Great breakfast, neat setting, and really cheap! Also had a great dinner of tapas at The Bridge last night.
