In addition to this blog, I also run a Tumblr at http://ralphehanson.tumblr.com. I use that to post quotes, photos, videos and the like with little comment or context.
Here are a few videos I’ve posted there lately that would make great pre-class entertainment (that’s what I use them for). Students, you may just find them fun.
- New wave fave Joe Jackson doing Sunday Papers back in the 1980s. (Brief bad language)
- We’re NASA and We Know It
For all you Mars geeks out there. - Are memes and Internet culture creating a singularity?
This one’s a bit deeper… - What would a 2012 trailer for the movie 2001 look like?
Regarding “Top Party School” WVU. Is there any research indicating whether this rating appears to increase/decrease enrollment?
Thanks
The one thing we know is that it can attract some unwanted attention. Back in the 1990s, a large corporate newsletter published a story with the headline “Don’t Send Your Child To These Schools.” The list were the Top 10 Party Schools.
There may be an effect, but I don’t know of research on it. I do know that the party schools tend to be big state schools with good reputations and good athletic programs.
Actually, I checked one random school that was the top party school several years ago to see if indeed the enrollment increased/decreased after receiving such recognition. To my surprise, enrollment increased albiet slightly. Penn State was the top party school in 2009 with a slight increase in 2010 enrollment.
