I’ve been reading up on Kickstarter the last few days – hence the last couple posts. Here are a few more:
- Getting advance support from readers dates back to at least the early 1700s
Alexander Pope used pre-funding in 17134 to fund his translation of Homer’s Illiad. - Kickstarter has held panel at New York Comic Con on funding comic projects
- Gordon McAlpin’s first Kickstarter for for a print collection of his comic Multiplex
Gordon started with a goal of $7.500 and reached a total of $13,194 over a couple of months. He gave away everything from eBooks to personalized copies of the printed books as rewards for supporting him. - Gordon McAlpin’s second Kickstarter for a second Multiplex printed collection
This time Gordon shot for a goal of $15,000 over about a one month period and raised almost $19,000. I supported this project at a low level and got eBooks of of all the comics that had been prepared for print so far. The funding was used to pay Gordon’s living expenses along with the costs of producing the book.
