Another day, another look at the National Football League’s violence against women and children crisis:
- Minnesota Vikings initially reinstate Peterson, then ban him from all team activities
According to the Washington Post, the Vikings have banned Adrian Peterson from participating with the team “until his legal issues are resolved.” He was indicted last week for whipping his 4-year-old son with a switch. Not coincidentally, The Radisson Hotel has suspended it’s sponsorship with the team and University of Minnesota Health was reevaluating its relationship with the team. Peterson has also lost his sponsorships from Castrol Motor Oil, Special Olympics Minnesota, and pharmaceutical company Mylan. Nike has also stopped selling Peterson’s jerseys. - NPR’s media reporter David Folkenflick examines how broadcasters are handling the Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson assaults.
How are broadcasters handling this problem when they are profiting from airing football games? (NFL broadcasters had a similar problem in the past with covering concussions and professional football.)
