- Why are journalists resisting court orders to turn over photos and videos of demonstrations to police?
Because journalists are supposed to be independent observers, not part of the police force. If journalists are forced to turn over their images and/or notes to law enforcement, they will likely face violence from protestors and have a difficult time telling their stories.

Since May 28th, US police have attacked journalists at least 140 times. And in the majority of these cases, the Nieman Lab reports, the journalists were deliberately targeted by police.
